This article critically examines the reconfiguration of the Italian– Spanish translator’s role in the age of artificial intelligence, with particular attention to Neural Machine Translation (NMT) and professional post- editing. It argues that, despite the surface fluency of current systems, NMT outputs exhibit recurrent lexical, grammatical and—most crucially— pragmatic-discursive errors, which become decisive in high-stakes genres (medical, legal, institutional and educational). The paper also integrates an algor-ethical perspective, understood as the effort to translate normative principles (dignity, justice, responsibility, transparency) into operational constraints and governance requirements for AI systems. Methodologically, the article adopts a critical review and applied exemplification approach for the Italian–Spanish pair, proposing decision criteria for when to use NMT, how to design post-editing guidelines and how to reinforce the translator’s professional agency

Abstract
Methodologically, the article adopts a critical review and applied exemplification approach for the Italian–Spanish pair, proposing decision criteria for when to use NMT, how to design post-editing guidelines and how to reinforce the translator’s professional agency| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
