This paper investigates the stories behind the creation of the Akeley Hall of African Mammals at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Building on Donna Haraway's critique of the hall's narrative premises, it examines the material and dispositional components of the space as remediators — in Bolter and Grusin's sense — of human-nonhuman and human-human relationships. The hall emerges as a site where the contradictions embedded in natural history museology, and in the nature-culture divide they reflect, are still visually reproduced today.

Abstract
This paper investigates the stories behind the creation of the Akeley Hall of African Mammals at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Building on Donna Haraway's critique of the hall's narrative premises, it examines the material and dispositional components of the space as remediators — in Bolter and Grusin's sense — of human-nonhuman and human-human relationships. The hall emerges as a site where the contradictions embedded in natural history museology, and in the nature-culture divide they reflect, are still visually reproduced today.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
