San Lorenzo Colli district, originally a rural village, has undergone a profound transformation throughout history: it was a district designated for the construction of villas (17th-19th centuries), an industrial estate (20th century) and a suburb after the Second World War. Starting from its recognised but neglected heritage – consisting of historic villas – this paper aims to propose an interpretation that focuses on the layered value of places, also integrating industrial archaeology. Recent restoration work in the area, as well as attempts at reuse and/or redevelopment, provide an opportunity to reinterpret the area in the contemporary city.

Abstract
San Lorenzo Colli district, originally a rural village, has undergone a profound transformation throughout history: it was a district designated for the construction of villas (17th-19th centuries), an industrial estate (20th century) and a suburb after the Second World War. Starting from its recognised but neglected heritage – consisting of historic villas – this paper aims to propose an interpretation that focuses on the layered value of places, also integrating industrial archaeology. Recent restoration work in the area, as well as attempts at reuse and/or redevelopment, provide an opportunity to reinterpret the area in the contemporary city.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
