Piero Barucci, Honorary President of ABI, passed away on 26 February 2026. This article explores some of the key aspects that characterised the Association’s life during his presidency, a period in which ABI expanded its mission to generate services for the benefit of its members that served as «public goods», capable of increasing the efficiency, competitiveness and attractiveness of the banking sector. This effort towards growth, and the move away from a ‘world of yesterday’ was consistently championed by Barucci.
