The philosophical debate on gender difference lies between theoretical reflection, political demands, a critical genealogy of Western thought, and the production of new conceptual paradigms. In recent decades, feminist phi- losophy has played a leading role in reflecting on the relationship between identity, the body, and power, dismantling the apparent neutrality of the uni- versal and restoring value to what has been relegated to the margins: em- bodied experience, women’s voices, and the singularity of relations. In this scenario, Adriana Cavarero stands out for an approach combining rigorous philosophical analysis with attention to language, narrative, and the relational dimension of existence. The text Donna si nasce (e qualche volta lo si diven- ta), co- written with Olivia Guaraldo, significantly contributes to this debate. Engaging with Simone de Beauvoir’s statement, «One is not born a woman, but rather becomes one», the authors propose a reversal aimed at rethinking female identity. While Beauvoir saw femininity as the result of a historical process of subordination, Cavarero sees being born a woman as an original da- tum that social construction doesn’t cancel, but interprets, distorts, or values.

Abstract
While Beauvoir saw femininity as the result of a historical process of subordination, Cavarero sees being born a woman as an original da- tum that social construction doesn’t cancel, but interprets, distorts, or values.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
