This article analyses Enzo Mari's Lezioni di disegno–a pencil-drawn iconotext produced during a workshop at the Politecnico di Milano in 2007 –as a cognitive device that interweaves text and image in a hybrid and generative form. Through the concept of disegno corsivo(cursive drawing), Mari develops a pedagogy of the imagination as a response to the risk of dulling creative faculties in an era of image overproduction, a concern already raised by Italo Calvino in his Six Memos for the Next Millennium. Drawing on Mitchell, Baumgarten, and Noë, the essay argues that thinking with a pencil in hand is not merely a representation of speech but a cognitive posture that, through the hybridisation of writing and image, renders the full richness of thought and revives Mari's broader project of self-design.

Abstract
This article analyses Enzo Mari's Lezioni di disegno–a pencil-drawn iconotext produced during a workshop at the Politecnico di Milano in 2007 –as a cognitive device that interweaves text and image in a hybrid and generative form. Through the concept of disegno corsivo(cursive drawing), Mari develops a pedagogy of the imagination as a response to the risk of dulling creative faculties in an era of image overproduction, a concern already raised by Italo Calvino in his Six Memos for the Next Millennium. Drawing on Mitchell, Baumgarten, and Noë, the essay argues that thinking with a pencil in hand is not merely a representation of speech but a cognitive posture that, through the hybridisation of writing and image, renders the full richness of thought and revives Mari's broader project of self-design.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
