If, as Jean-Luc Marion writes, in the full unfolding of the erotic relation- ship each becomes the phenomenon of the other, because the flesh of one comes from the other, this becoming cannot fail to have repercussions on the attribution of sex, and therefore of sexual identity, to each. If my flesh, always already sexed by nature, becomes mine through the other who gives it to me, my sex, which cannot be separated from my flesh, is likewise affected by the same heterogeneity. Thus, insofar as sex belongs to the flesh and escapes the mere condition of a sexual organ or apparatus, it necessarily follows the des- tiny of the flesh that «realizes the lover in an adonized being». This means that our sex is always the sex of the other, that is, the sex given to us within the erotic relationship, which thus operates, a posteriori, a rewriting of the sex with which we are naturally endowed.
