The movement of reality and the perennial conflict between the individual and society: some reflections with Leopardi – This essay examines Giacomo Leopardi’s perspective on the conflictual relationship between individuals and society through the idea of an ‘entropic materialism’. The article will be divided into three parts: firstly, an analysis of metaphysical laws, followed by their application to the social realm. If reality’s movement consistently involves both creation and destruction, acquisition and loss, civilization merely reflects this dynamic. Consequently, every gain for one part of society implies a loss for another. In the final section, the article will explore broader reflections on the possibilities of ethics to opens a space for a constructive criticism to allow human beings to distance themselves from this movement of reality.
