Mappare la toponomastica popolare: il progetto DATOS per un dizionario atlante dei toponimi orali in Sicilia.

In this essay, the DATOS project is presented as an initiative that broadens the study of Sicilian toponymy by focusing on oral place names and dialectal forms. By addressing the limitations of earlier research, it highlights the importance of fieldwork and the contribution of local informants and ethnotexts. The project integrates written and oral sources through a flexible methodology aimed at classifying and interpreting place names. Its primary goal is to preserve and make accessible a threatened linguistic and cultural heritage.
