In the field of sustainable design, the issue of gender identity operates within a distinctly multimodal framework. Unlike linguistics, which operates primarily on a verbal level, design operates through systems of visual, material, spatial and typographic signs, making a decisive contribution to the construction of social imaginaries and forms of symbolic recognition. From this perspective, design can be considered a language in its own right: a structured set of semiotic resources that organise experience and convey cultural values.
