Paesaggi, risorse, insediamenti e viabilità nel comprensorio di Selinunte

The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the archaeological research in the context of Ancient landscapes in the hinterland of Selinunte, up to the frontier, with the inhabited centers located in the surroundings of the city (Lilibeo – Marsala, Salemi, Monte Castellazzo di Poggioreale, Entella). By means of a diachronic approach, both the main settlement dynamics and the geographical and morphological characteristics that may have favored – at all times – the selection of places suitable for rural populations living in the countryside are highlighted. The environmental conditions, the distribution of resources, communication routes, and settlements contribute to the formation of landscapes and, at the same time, allow for grasping elements of continuity and discontinuity from Ancient to Modern times.
