Dear Editor, the recent article on Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases offers a timely reminder that even the rarest zo- onotic infections may carry outsized clinical and societal consequences [1]. Members of the Lyssavi- rus genus share a defining biological feature: once neurological symptoms appear, the disease course is almost invariably fatal, regardless of the specific viral species involved.
