Senofonte tra storia e filosofia

Xenophon’s work can be considered a continuation of that of Thucydides. In fact, the exposition of the History of the Peloponnesian War, although it took place between 431 and 404, stops at the year 411 BC; while Xenophon’s Hellenica focuses on the final years of the conflict between Athens and Sparta. The Hellenica deals with the final years of the Peloponnesian War, relating to the years 411-404 BC; therefore, the Hellenica can be considered the continuation and conclusion of the History of the Peloponnesian War. We are indebted to Herodotus, Thucydides and Xenophon for having given rise to history as an autonomous discipline, based on the positive method. In the case of Xenophon, we must not overlook the fact that he was also a student of Plato, so his production is characterized by a certain interest in philosophy.
