Notai e testamenti nel Medioevo siciliano

Through the study of various wills held in the State Archives of Palermo and the State Archives of Agrigento - Section of the Sciacca Archives, the essay analyzes the testator-notary relationship, establishing a relationship between the two actors involved in the legal deed. The examination of several case studies illustrates, on the one hand, the multiplicity of collections in which copies and transcriptsof the same deed can be found, and on the other, the relationships forged by notaries with the city elite and, at the same time, those of the aristocracy with notaries, judges, and jurists connected to the municipal government.

Attraverso lo studio di diversi testamenti conservati presso l’Archivio di Stato di Palermo e l’Archivio di Stato di Agrigento-Sezione dell’Archivio di Sciacca, il saggio analizza il binomio testatore-notaio, mettendo in relazione i due attori che intervengono nel negozio giuridico. L’esame di alcuni casi studio diviene esemplificativo, da un lato, della pluralità di fondi in cui possono rinvenirsi copie e transunti di uno stesso atto, dall’altro, delle relazioni intessute dai notai con l’élite cittadina e, al contempo, di quelle dell’aristocrazia con notai, giudici e giurisperiti legati al governo municipale.
