The essay examines etiquette manuals as texts that contribute to the construction and regulation of social relations. Its aim is to investigate etiquette not merely as a set of behavioral norms, but as a semiotic and cultural mechanism capable of producing values, identities, and models of interaction. The study traces the historical transformation of standards of decorum and analyzes their role in defining what is considered appropriate within different social contexts. The analysis considers classical etiquette books, contemporary manuals, and digital content, treating them as programming texts that orient practices and dispositions. Particular attention is devoted to enunciative strategies, to the processes through which norms are legitimized, and to the relationship between being and seeming. The essay thus offers a reflection on savoir vivre as a social competence grounded in adaptation, moderation, and the symbolic construction of identity.
