The article reflects on the experience of “La Zattera,” an hospitality community in Palermo, as a practice of hospitality grounded in gratuity and political resistance. Through an autobiographical narrative, the author explores how everyday forms of coexistence with migrants challenge securitarian and utilitarian logics that shape dominant migration discourses. Drawing on theoretical references such as Judith Butler and Emmanuel Lévinas, the contribution frames hospitality as an ethical and political responsibility toward the Other, rooted in the recognition of the equal dignity of precarious lives. Gratuity emerges not only as a spiritual or moral principle, but as a concrete political stance: the choice to reject public migration-related funding and to sustain the community through shared resources. The article situates this experience within broader struggles for anti-racism and social justice, presenting hospitality as a form of lived resistance and relational belonging.

Abstract
The article situates this experience within broader struggles for anti-racism and social justice, presenting hospitality as a form of lived resistance and relational belonging.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
