The purpose of this paper is to present some new observations on the second exegetical fragment of Dionysius of Alexandria in Feltoe’s edition (Cambridge 1904). In the first note, an emendation of the text published by Feltoe is proposed, which – by integrating a preposition – aims at restoring a more congruent interpretation of the passage in question (excerptum 2). Meanwhile, the second note discusses a possible derivation of excerptum 4 – containing a praise of wisdom – from a lost work composed by Posidonius, as the comparison with Seneca’s epistle 90 reveals remarkable analogies between Dionysius’ and Posidonius’ conception of σοφία and the birth of civilisation and techniques.

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present some new observations on the second exegetical fragment of Dionysius of Alexandria in Feltoe’s edition (Cambridge 1904). In the first note, an emendation of the text published by Feltoe is proposed, which – by integrating a preposition – aims at restoring a more congruent interpretation of the passage in question (excerptum 2). Meanwhile, the second note discusses a possible derivation of excerptum 4 – containing a praise of wisdom – from a lost work composed by Posidonius, as the comparison with Seneca’s epistle 90 reveals remarkable analogies between Dionysius’ and Posidonius’ conception of σοφία and the birth of civilisation and techniques.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
