Ludovico Maria Ruinetti was one of the members of a well-known family of publishers, printers and booksellers who were active in various locations in the regions of Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, between seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. During the early years of his activity in Bologna, Ludovico Maria produced a printed catalogue (published by the printer Pisarri in 1692) that lists the book stock of his own bookshop, located in the town centre and identified with the sign of Mercury. A general introduction to the topic of early printed book sale catalogues, followed by some information regarding the Ruinetti family from Bologna, is given in the first part of the essay. Then we describe the method adopted by Ludovico Maria in arranging the catalogue, and the sections in which it is divided, along with some data displayed in tables. A few details are also offered on the characteristics of the 1692 edition, as well as copy-specific information regarding the only known surviving item to date, which is kept in Vicenza, at the Bertoliana Library
