The chapter discusses recent initiatives by the Italian Ministry of Education to support student career guidance. The history of career guidance theory and practice in Italy is summarized. The basic principles of career guidance teaching, of orienting by teaching the subjects of the school curriculum, are presented. Best career guidance practices implemented by schools and vocational training institutions are presented. The experience of the ELIS Association, which has been operating in the sector for sixty years, is described in detail. Training and guidance are fully integrated into the educational practices of the ELIS system for young people, most of whom hold a secondary school diploma, but also for those who do not.
