Two kymbala are preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria. They are similar to other bronze percussion instruments dedicated to female divinities of the ancient Greek world. Based on their shape, these kymbala, which were found in the sacred area Griso Laboccetta, can be dated to the vi-iii c. BCE. They could be considered as votive offerings and could have been played during ceremonies and festivities performed in Rhegion. Material evidence of musical and choral performances could reveal how music and dance were essential aspects of local cults in this Greek polis.
