Pro gloria patroni. Suppellettili e arredi liturgici in argento per San Mauro Abate a San Mauro Caste

The liturgical furnishings dedicated to Saint Mauro the Abbot, preserved in the churches of San Mauro Castelverde, a town in the province of Palermo, are examined. These artifacts, predominantly made of silver, were commissioned between the 15th and 18th centuries by the local elite from Sicilian artists, as an expression of the community’s deep devotion to its patron saint. The study highlights the historical and artistic value of the works, in which the major stylistic and cultural influences that succeeded one another over time, from the Renaissance to the Rococo, are reflected.

Si analizzano gli arredi liturgici dedicati a San Mauro Abate conservati nelle chiese di San Mauro Castelverde, centro della provincia di Palermo. I manufatti, prevalentemente in argento, furono commissionati tra il XV e il XVIII secolo dall’élite locale ad artisti siciliani, come espressione della profonda devozione della comunità verso il santo patrono. Lo studio mette in evidenza il valore storico-artistico delle opere, nelle quali si riflettono le principali influenze stilistiche e culturali succedutesi nel tempo, dal Rinascimento al Rococò
