How Many Women Are in the Room?

THE AWARD WE CONCEIVED, created and presented to the winning designers of the fifth edition of AWDA represents a banner symbolising ideas and protests, capable of acti- vating energy and sisterhood more effectively than any commemorative plaque or trophy. Even more so when the folds of the banner hide not only shapes and colours but also letters and words that spell out the question accompanying the award ceremony and giving the book its title: ‘How Many Women Are in the Room?’. The publication brings together projects and research, essays and interviews, biographies and profiles of the people who collaborated on AWDA 5, and the result is much more than a mere collection of designs.

Il premio che abbiamo immaginato, realizzato e attribuito alle designer vincitrici della quinta edizione di AWDA è una bandiera, oggetto sim- bolico in quanto espressione di idee e proteste, capace di attivare energie e sorellanza – con più efficacia di una targa o un trofeo da esporre. Ancor più se tra le sue pieghe non trovano posto solo forme e colori ma lettere e parole che compongo- no la domanda “How Many Women Are in the Room?”, che ha accompagnato la premiazione e che dà il titolo al volume, in cui sono raccolti, in una composita struttura editoriale, progetti e ricerche, saggi e interviste, biografie e profili del- le persone che hanno collaborato a AWDA 5, con il chiaro obiettivo di non essere solo un catalogo ragionato di progetti.
