Conoscere il ius humanum e il ius divinum: note a margine di un sintagma tacitiano

Some lines from Tacitus’ Annales define two iureconsulti as “divini humanique iuris sciens”. By studying the different forms of this expression in the classical sources, one can shed light on the Roman viewpoint about the ius as a study object. By using different verbs or adjectives in semantic relation with the process of knowledge, the literary sources show up two different steps in that process, namely one that assumes a concrete value on the basis of experience and one that can be the so-called scientific way
