L’evoluzione politica dei poteri di vigilanza tecnica della Commissione europea

The European Commission has always played a “political” role within the legal framework outlined by the European treaties; it is, in fact, tasked with promoting the general interest of the Union. Over time, this role has gained increasing democratic legitimacy, with a stronger connection to the outcomes of the European Parliament elections. That said, this essay aims to highlight how even the technical enforcement powers assigned to the European Commission are now increasingly targeted toward achieving political objectives. This is particularly evident in the attempt to mitigate the risks that various recent crises pose to European democracy.
