Are we sure we know the 20th-century architecture of our cities? This essay will attempt to analyse two significant buildings constructed in Palermo in the 1950s. Designed by figures such as Leonardo Foderà, Andrea Nonis and Pier Francesco Borghese, these architectures had a fair amount of critical acclaim shortly after completion, only to gradually fall into oblivion. Even their state of preservation – to this day sub-optimal – leads one to assume a lack of awareness of their intrinsic value and of the quality that these architectures add to the parts of the city in which they stand. Through drawing and graphic analysis, an attempt will be made to recount what the two buildings are and why it is necessary to activate processes of protection, which originated precisely in purely popular cultural actions that first and foremost promote knowledge of them.
