Marcella Aprile sul Baglio Di Stefano

Luciana Macaluso interviews Marcella Aprile about her direct experience in the reconstruction of Gibellina Nuova after the 1968 earthquake, when, as a young architect and professor of architectural and urban design at the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo, she contributed to that "concrete utopia" that was taking shape. Designer – together with Roberto Collovà and Teresa La Rocca – of the Case Di Stefano, she engaged in long conversations with Ludovico Corrao and participated in the Belice Workshops of 1980. These workshops, as they were conceived, involved staying for about a month in the area where, side by side, professors, students, and architects – some already internationally renowned and others on the verge of recognition – would draw, debate, and test their ideas through the tools of architectural and landscape design. This intensive exchange became the catalyst for other activities and friendships, including the project for the open-air theater in Salemi (M. Aprile, R. Collovà, F. Venezia). Despite the visible difficulties and failures in the current condition of the Belice region, they do not overshadow the trust in a method that still remains partly to be understood – and which could be applied with a new awareness, one that could not have existed in the past, and which, at times, is revealed in Marcella Aprile’s words.

Luciana Macaluso intervista Marcella Aprile sulla sua esperienza diretta nella ricostruzione di Gibellina Nuova dopo il terremoto del 1968, quando da giovane architetto e docente di progettazione architettonica e urbana della Facoltà di Architettura di Palermo contribuì a quell’"utopia concreta" che si stava realizzando. Progettista – insieme a Roberto Collovà e Teresa La Rocca – delle Case Di Stefano, dialogò a lungo con Ludovico Corrao e partecipò ai Laboratori del Belice 1980. Questi, per come furono ideati, implicarono una permanenza di circa un mese nei luoghi in cui, gomito a gomito, docenti, studenti e architetti – già di fama internazionale o che l’avrebbero poco dopo avuta riconosciuta – disegnavano, discutevano e verificavano le proprie posizioni attraverso lo strumento del progetto di architettura e paesaggio. Il confronto intensivo fu il volano di altre attività e amicizie, fra cui il progetto del teatro all’aperto di Salemi (M. Aprile, R. Collovà, F. Venezia). Difficoltà e fallimenti visibili nella condizione attuale del Belice non offuscano la fiducia verso un metodo ancora in parte da comprendere e da poter applicare con una nuova consapevolezza, che in passato non poteva esistere, e che, a tratti, le parole di Marcella Aprile, svelano.
