Selinunte, an impressive archaeological site from the Greek era, owes its fame to its impressive ruins, the only proof of an ancient splendour. Fascinated by these remains, numerous scholars and travellers visited Selinunte from the 18th century onwards. The travellers’ drawings, especially the graphic restorations by Jean Hulot, show both the evocative landscape of the rubbles and the expressive reconstructions of the lost Greek colony. The relation between Selinunte and its rubbles spans the centuries, remaining alive in memory and collective consciousness.

Abstract
Selinunte, an impressive archaeological site from the Greek era, owes its fame to its impressive ruins, the only proof of an ancient splendour. Fascinated by these remains, numerous scholars and travellers visited Selinunte from the 18th century onwards. The travellers’ drawings, especially the graphic restorations by Jean Hulot, show both the evocative landscape of the rubbles and the expressive reconstructions of the lost Greek colony. The relation between Selinunte and its rubbles spans the centuries, remaining alive in memory and collective consciousness.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
