Riconnessioni urbane

The design process addresses the need for the protection and accessibility of the archaeological excavations discovered next to the Cathedral of Alcalá de Henares, as well as the construction of several ecclesiastical residences and a rehearsal hall for the choir. The project reconnects two parts of the city that were previously separated by enclosures and different ownership regimes. Three new volumes are embedded within the historical fabric, linked by a framework of aerial walkways. The integration of these elements takes into account the existing built environment, recalibrating the relationships between public spaces and shaping new ones, thus offering an unexpected way to experience the historic city.
