This chapter analyzes the Italian discourse marker magari and its translation into Spanish. We begin by presenting its definition in both Italian and bilingual lexicography, followed by an examination of its syntactic behaviour to highlight its functional and semantic complexity. Next, through the analysis of a corpus of Italian-to-Spanish translations (including La bustina di Minerva and selected texts from Legioni e Falangi / Legiones y Falanges), we propose a new discursive definition that characterizes magari as a multifunctional discourse marker.

Abstract
This chapter analyzes the Italian discourse marker magari and its translation into Spanish. We begin by presenting its definition in both Italian and bilingual lexicography, followed by an examination of its syntactic behaviour to highlight its functional and semantic complexity. Next, through the analysis of a corpus of Italian-to-Spanish translations (including La bustina di Minerva and selected texts from Legioni e Falangi / Legiones y Falanges), we propose a new discursive definition that characterizes magari as a multifunctional discourse marker.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
