SARS-CoV-2 is impacting the public health-system worldwide and requires policies to address the demand for additional capacity. Monitoring its spread allows the identification of alarm signals useful for scaling up resources and reacting to the pandemic. In Italy, starting with the identification of the first patient, the Protezione Civile has published a range of indicators as open data, which has supported the country’s government in discovering trends and in setting-up targeted measures for preventing the spread of the virus and controlling the speed of transmission. This paper analyses these indicators from February 2020 to June 2021 and provides insights for healthcare managers.
