Palinsesti storici e progetto d’architettura

The architectural experience conducted through the workshop this volume deals with has taken as its foundation a methodological approach that interprets the project as a transcription. If this interpretation can be considered legitimate in absolute terms, it is even more so when dealing with a built environment composed of historical and stratified urban fabrics, where the history of places can rarely be considered linear or univocal and where the paths and founding principles of the project should in any case feed on the complexity of reality, introducing new connections or bringing to light those that are now hidden. We are therefore linked to a broader reflection, to be extended to the European city and, more generally, to the built environment, with its stratification mechanisms that impose the recognition and the need for dialogue between old and new. The results of this necessary work of recycling and mending will in any case lead to partial and not definitive solutions, but these will always be guided by the preparation of a broader and more concerted system of necessary relationships. The project must certainly be understood as a moment of synthesis but, at the same time, it is also a critical reinterpretation of the formative processes in progress of the urban morphology, re-cognized through reading. A common factor, in an interpretation of the project as transcription, will be the desire to give urban meaning to the projects, to the architectural objects, to think of architectures that acquire meaning in the relationship they establish with the city in which they are located, with an osmosis between city and architecture that sees the buildings conceived as parts of a whole, that exploits their condition of fragment, recognizing the timelessness and specificity of urban phenomena.

L’esperienza nell’architettura condotta attraverso il workshop di cui ci si occupa questo volume, ha assunto a proprio fondamento un’impostazione metodologica che interpreta il progetto quale trascrizione. Se tale interpretazione può essere considerata legittima in assoluto, lo è ancor di più quando ci si confronta con un ambiente costruito composto da tessuti urbani storici e stratificati, dove la storia dei luoghi raramente può essere considerata lineare o univoca e dove i percorsi e i principi fondativi del progetto dovrebbero comunque alimentarsi della complessità del reale, introducendo nuove connessioni o riportandone alla luce di ormai nascoste. Ci si lega quindi ad una riflessione più ampia, da estendere alla città europea e, più in generale, all’ ambiente costruito, con i suoi meccanismi di stratificazione che impongono il riconoscimento e il bisogno del dialogo tra antico e nuovo. I risultati di questo necessario lavoro di riciclaggio e ricucitura condurranno comunque a soluzioni parziali e non definitive, ma queste saranno sempre guidate dalla predisposizione di un sistema più ampio e concertato di relazioni necessarie. Il progetto va inteso senz’altro come momento di sintesi ma, al tempo stesso, è anche reinterpretazione critica dei processi formativi in atto della morfologia urbana, ri-conosciuti attraverso la lettura. Fattore comune, in un’interpretazione del progetto come trascrizione, sarà la volontà di dare significato urbano ai progetti, agli oggetti architettonici, di pensare ad architetture che acquistino senso nel rapporto che istituiscono con la città in cui si collocano, con una osmosi tra città e architettura che vede gli edifici concepiti come parti di un tutto, che sfrutta la loro condizione di frammento, riconoscendo l’atemporalità e le specificità dei fenomeni urbani.
