The contribution is dedicated to the analysis of the Italian debate on Taste in the early eighteenth century, to the reconstruction of its reception by Italian philosophical criticism starting from the second half of the twentieth century, and to the consequences of that debate on German-language reflection, and on the so-called “critical poetics” of Bodmer and Breitinger in the first place. Particular attention is dedicated to the reconstruction of the positions of Muratori and Calepio, to their affinities with the German debate of the first phase of the Aufklärung, to the consequences on the more mature phase of the German debate, and together to the reasons for the relative marginality of the theoretical themes brought forward by the Italian authors.
