The essay aims to highlight the renewal of religious architecture in the second half of the 16th century within a geographic area that has so far been little explored by architectural history studies: the inner, mountainous areas close to Messina. It points out works of notable interest while keeping the construction dynamics and underlying cultural horizons at the center of the discussion. By observing the processes of expansion and transformation of ecclesiastical buildings, through the addition of new chapels or more substantial reconstructions, it is possible to identify connections with the cultural environment of Messina, as well as an "internal" dimension in the phenomena of transmission of models and formal solutions.

Abstract
The essay aims to highlight the renewal of religious architecture in the second half of the 16th century within a geographic area that has so far been little explored by architectural history studies: the inner, mountainous areas close to Messina. It points out works of notable interest while keeping the construction dynamics and underlying cultural horizons at the center of the discussion. By observing the processes of expansion and transformation of ecclesiastical buildings, through the addition of new chapels or more substantial reconstructions, it is possible to identify connections with the cultural environment of Messina, as well as an "internal" dimension in the phenomena of transmission of models and formal solutions.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
