Emerging as a distinctive sub-discipline within Anglo-American aesthetics, Everyday Aesthetics has revolutionized traditional inquiries by directing attention towards the aesthetics inherent in commonplace practices and objects. This philosophical trend, initially prominent in the United States, found resonance in European academia, broadening its scope and introducing diverse interpretative frameworks. However, amidst this burgeoning discourse, the historical dimension of Everyday Aesthetics remains relatively unexplored. This paper endeavors to fill this gap by delving into the historical origins of Western aesthetics, focusing on the notions of care of the home in the thought of Socrates and Xenophon, two eminent Greek philosophers. Adopting a historical approach inspired by Władysław Tatarkiewicz, the essay proposes a historical investigation aimed at identifying traces of everyday aesthetics in Greek thought. Through the analysis of Xenophon's Memorabilia and Oeconomicus, it is highlighted how the concepts of order and beauty, generally interpreted by ancient philosophy in a metaphysical context, are applied by Xenophon's Socrates and Xenophon himself to objects and practices of daily life, specifically to the care of the home. By recognizing implicit aesthetics in everyday practices, this historical lens enriches contemporary discussions within Everyday Aesthetics, particularly concerning cleanliness, order, and domestic care.
