Rediscovering the Submerged Landscapes of the Mosul Dam Basin: The reland Archaeological Project · This preliminary report outlines the research objectives and presents the initial findings from the first three campaigns of the ReLand project: Resurfacing Landscapes of the Mosul Dam Reservoir. The project, a collaboration between the University of Palermo and the Department of Antiquities of Duhok (Kurdistan Region of Iraq - kri), aims to assess the impact of water level fluctuations in the Mosul Dam basin on the archaeological heritage of the Upper Tigris region. By integrating legacy data, remote sensing analysis and field investigations, the project identifies the most at-risk sites, evaluates their state of preservation, and undertakes targeted rescue interventions. Additionally, it develops and tests a monitoring and safeguarding protocol to guide future conservation strategies.
