The idea of Interior, usually referable to the boundaries of the artefact, can, in a semantic dilation, also include in its constituent principles the vast territorial extensions where the anthropic sedimentation, connected to the backdrops of reliefs, the rifts of watercourses, the emergence of rocky outposts placed by Nature, delimit homogeneous areas that are repositories of aesthetic value. Corroborated by Rosario Assunto's concept of metaspatiality, which aligns the concept of landscape to a space defined by a unitary composition that gives it form; reversed in the idea of Italian territory as a sequence of rooms theorised by Franco Purini; the idea of the interior delineates in the recognition of a limit the revelation of a discontinuity between an inside, considered safe and stable, and an outside, identifiable as infinite and indistinct. Concretised in an evident urban visibility by Gian Battista Nolli, the investigation of the concatenation of open-air interiors in the city contemplates the presuppositions for a transcalar investigation aimed at affirming the importance of a porous consistency of the urban organism useful for describing, in the sequence of the facts performed in it and in the relationship between fabric and singular places, the image, the form and, as a whole, the architecture of the city as a place of investigation. Within the framework of these principles, the spatial encroachments characterising the identity and perception of the urban, in distinguishing themselves as directly consequential to a figure, described by the identity of their margins, to a density, arranged in relation to the compressions of the surrounding tissues, to a quantity of volume measured in the concluded void of the encroachments, bring back to the urban the categories described by Luigi Moretti in his research on the casts of the interiors of single buildings, delineating, as already arranged by Leon Battista Alberti, in the spatial dilations of the squares, the fields, the open-air open spaces, the rooms of a single large house.
