The article summarizes the opening of the conference organized by the scientific society PROARCH on the Third Mission, held at the University of Naples Federico II on September 18, 2024. It specifically discusses the contributions to the Third Mission made by professors in CEAR 09/A/B/C. The Third Mission refers to the transfer of knowledge—gained through research and teaching—to civil society, the business sector, and public institutions, in order to foster the cultural, economic, and social growth of the territory. In this context, the University benefits the community, while, conversely, requests from "external" entities positively impact the University, helping to overcome the long-standing issue of academic introversion and offering the University valuable connections to real-world challenges. By considering the many initiatives carried out within Architecture Departments, it becomes clear how these activities both enrich architectural reflection and foster meaningful engagement with external realities. Strengthening both aspects without contradiction requires transcending the traditional division of missions. This approach acknowledges the distinct characteristics of the University as a whole, avoiding the compartmentalization of its outcomes into isolated "boxes." This ongoing exchange of knowledge suggests a model for architecture professors that parallels the commitment of medical professors involved in the national health service, where engagement with society is integral to their role.

Abstract
This approach acknowledges the distinct characteristics of the University as a whole, avoiding the compartmentalization of its outcomes into isolated "boxes." This ongoing exchange of knowledge suggests a model for architecture professors that parallels the commitment of medical professors involved in the national health service, where engagement with society is integral to their role.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
