On the occasion of the 2019 CoRI exchange titled "Architecture and Democracy: The Quality of the Everyday Landscape," organised by the University of Palermo (as part of its international cooperation initiatives) and led by Luciana Macaluso as scientific responsible, Jordi Bellmunt Chiva participated in research activities focused on the Mediterranean and in educational workshops during the 2019-2020 academic year. This included delivering four lectures as part of the "January Interdisciplinary Seminars" (the outcomes of which are summarised in this article) and engaging in meetings to review design exercises. The purpose of this text is to explain how Bellmunt's contribution was both relevant and fruitful in shaping the design project for a mosque in the historic center of Palermo. The Catalan architect demonstrated a capacity for interscalar thinking, adapting his approach based on specific objectives and contexts. He presented examples of various architectural styles, each shaped by unique social and cultural conditions. Bellmunt frequently referenced the geoclimatic characteristics of works built in the Iberian Peninsula, southern Italy, and the Maghreb, highlighting how these elements influenced the urban character of the buildings. Bellmunt’s reflections on "microlandscapes" and "social landscapes" sparked a broader debate and offered a series of exemplary case studies developed both at the B2B studio and within other notable contemporary professional practices.

Abstract
Bellmunt’s reflections on "microlandscapes" and "social landscapes" sparked a broader debate and offered a series of exemplary case studies developed both at the B2B studio and within other notable contemporary professional practices.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
