The CIVIC OASIS project, developed in 2022 as part of the Third Mission activity, included the summer Workshop "The garden of frugality. Sensory Gardens at School" which was part of the initiative funded by the Ministry of Education and Merit (PON-FESR), aimed at "facilitating a green, digital and resilient recovery of the Edugreen economy; sustainability workshops for the first cycle" for schools. The operation resulted in a public engagement activity for the definition of a part of the external spaces of the De Amicis school in Palermo, with the aim of concretely creating five small gardens and an Atelier pergola, with the involvement of students, teachers and university researchers, together with public actors, professionals and third sector associations. Intended to host temporary open-air events throughout the school year, the project takes on a political and civic role in the neighbourhood and aims to extend the definition of a learning environment, enriching it with new educational values, linked to environmental sustainability, social inclusion and intended for the educational community of the Noce neighbourhood in Palermo. CIVIC OASIS is a pilot project to transform schools into 'continuous education construction sites for sustainability. An intense collaborative activity between educational institutions, Schools and Universities, and local communities, has allowed the redevelopment of some outdoor spaces of the De Amicis school. Climatic and emotional refuge, the CIVIC OASIS contributes to extending the role of the school as a garrison of legality by enriching its spaces with new educational variables linked to environmental sustainability and social inclusion. Numerous ceremonies and a busy calendar of public events open this space to the neighbourhood that welcomes two other new gardens: the "Garden guardian of the Mediterranean scrub" and the "Garden of the Righteous” of the national network of gardens Gariwo Network.

Abstract
Numerous ceremonies and a busy calendar of public events open this space to the neighbourhood that welcomes two other new gardens: the "Garden guardian of the Mediterranean scrub" and the "Garden of the Righteous” of the national network of gardens Gariwo Network.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
