The article reconstructs the processes of transformation of the party system by analyzing the work "Political Parties. Theory and discipline," a collaboration between S. Bonfiglio, R.L. Blanco Valdés and G. Maestri. Since the late 1980s, the transformation of traditional democratic parties has, as is well known, led to the emergence of post-democratic leader’s parties and the rise of populist forces. According to the Authors, the political party may still have a future, but its reference horizon may not be a national or European normative framework
