Plautus’ fr. VII Lindsay from extra-varronian comedy Nervolaria seems to be quoted by three different sources (two main ones, the third deriving from the second). Each of these sources, as it is easier to understand, attributes the fragment to a different comedy: in particular, whereas Gellius assigns it to the Nervolaria, Varro seems to place the verse in a series of three quotations from the Cistellaria. It is worth considering the possibility that the two verses quoted by Varro and Gellius, which differ in their last word as well, are not the same one, but two different senarii from two different comedies.

Abstract
Plautus’ fr. VII Lindsay from extra-varronian comedy Nervolaria seems to be quoted by three different sources (two main ones, the third deriving from the second). Each of these sources, as it is easier to understand, attributes the fragment to a different comedy: in particular, whereas Gellius assigns it to the Nervolaria, Varro seems to place the verse in a series of three quotations from the Cistellaria. It is worth considering the possibility that the two verses quoted by Varro and Gellius, which differ in their last word as well, are not the same one, but two different senarii from two different comedies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
