The theater of Iaitas/Ietas on the summit plateau of Monte Iato is probably one of the most investigated and debated performance buildings, particularly with regard to its dating. The study by Hans Peter Isler, who excavated the monument, has put particular emphasis on defining the various phases of the building. The present contribution will focus on the analysis of the structures of the prohedria, whose peculiar articulation seems to denounce the existence of different constructional moments for the theatron as well. An attempt will therefore be made to link these transformations to those already identified for the frons scaenae, establishing a relative chronology, in order to get, through a comparative process, some general observations useful for the definition of an absolute chronology.

Abstract
The theater of Iaitas/Ietas on the summit plateau of Monte Iato is probably one of the most investigated and debated performance buildings, particularly with regard to its dating. The study by Hans Peter Isler, who excavated the monument, has put particular emphasis on defining the various phases of the building. The present contribution will focus on the analysis of the structures of the prohedria, whose peculiar articulation seems to denounce the existence of different constructional moments for the theatron as well. An attempt will therefore be made to link these transformations to those already identified for the frons scaenae, establishing a relative chronology, in order to get, through a comparative process, some general observations useful for the definition of an absolute chronology.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
