The contribution aims at identifying the characteristic traits of the Scythians in the Lucianic works, in order to distinguish one viewpoint from another in relation to their culture and society. Therefore, these features seem to focus on the Greek way of thinking, especially in cases where the Scythians are represented as a savage people without education. However, once the characters have changed, for example in the passages with Anacharsis or Toxaris, various elements reflect the Scythians' outlook on themselves and the others.

Abstract

The contribution aims at identifying the characteristic traits of the Scythians in the Lucianic works, in order to distinguish one viewpoint from another in relation to their culture and society. Therefore, these features seem to focus on the Greek way of thinking, especially in cases where the Scythians are represented as a savage people without education. However, once the characters have changed, for example in the passages with Anacharsis or Toxaris, various elements reflect the Scythians' outlook on themselves and the others.
