The proposed reflection refers to a research project developed during the PhD in “Architecture, Arts and Planning” (Unipa). We wonder whether it is possible to overcome the vision that configures archaeological sites as monofunctional enclosures; what values are attributed by the population; how to relate the “protected inside” to the outside. To think about the theme of “archaeology and nature”, with the tools of architectural design, landscape and archaeological research, the site of Kamarina, on the southern coast of Sicily, was chosen. Soil and vegetation are the main materials of the project to express the perception of time, starting a virtuous process for the protection, reuse and continuity of the territory, to reduce the abandonment of archaeological areas. Starting from the planning of the rediscovery of the archaeological fabric, a “project over time” is proposed, which develops in three phases during which the vegetation takes on the dual role of protective factor of the buried finds and narration of the site. The project is used to verify the initial hypotheses: in this way it was possible to control the changes induced by the progress of the archaeological excavations in relation to the changes that climate, vegetation and new uses bring.

Abstract
The project is used to verify the initial hypotheses: in this way it was possible to control the changes induced by the progress of the archaeological excavations in relation to the changes that climate, vegetation and new uses bring.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
