The Cartabia Reform has attempted to relaunch alternative sanctions and to accentuate their re-educational purpose, in particular by including public service work among them, on the Anglo-Saxon ‘Community Service’ model. The author analyses the innovations introduced by the reform, their practical effects and critical issues and reflects on the problematic nature of the subject of re-education.
