Lungo la strada della scomparsa del monumento

In my brief exploration of the critical investigations carried out over time and the use of different artistic practices performed on monuments and on their status, I suggest “striking whiteness”1 as a unifying principle. The concept was proposed by Nicholas Mirzoeff, the Professor of Media, Culture and Communication at New York University in his latest book White Sight: Visual Politics and Practices of Whiteness published in 2023. Whereas the art projects in question are Dissident Heritage by Cosimo Veneziano, Social Contract curated by the undersigned in Kyiv (2016-2017) and photographic works by Viktor Kochetov 2, a Ukrainian Soviet photographer, representative of the Kharkiv School of Photography of the 1970s.
