Da Cipro a Monreale, passando per Malta. Nuove considerazioni sull’allestimento del Breviario Gerosolimitano della Biblioteca “Ludovico II de Torres”

The essay presents the well-known Breviarium Hierosolymitanum of the “Ludovico II Torres” library of Monreale (PA) in a new light, proposing, also thanks to heraldic considerations, its installation in Cyprus between the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century, within a atelier that combined paleolog and western culture, for a member of the royal house of Lusignan linked to a noble Cypriot family (Babin?) and his arrival in Malta, in the power of the Grand Master de la Cassière - who will have the ornamentation stylistically updated and he will in turn donate it to the Sicilian archbishop, after the fall of Cyprus.

Il saggio presenta sotto una nuova luce il noto Breviarium Hierosolymitanum della biblioteca “Ludovico II Torres” di Monreale (PA), proponendo, anche grazie a considerazioni araldiche, il suo allestimento a Cipro tra fine XIV e inizi XV secolo, all’interno di un atelier che coniugava cultura paleologa e occidentale, per un membro della casa reale dei Lusignano legato a nobile famiglia cipriota (Babin?) e il suo arrivo a Malta, in potere del Gran Maestro de la Cassière - che ne farà aggiornare stilisticamente l’ornamentazione e lo donerà a sua volta all’arcivescovo siciliano, dopo la caduta di Cipro.
