The study introduces the theme of the Architecture of Municipal Public Slaughterhouses, historical places and monumental institutions, now dismissed, that assumed an important role, in Italy and in Europe, in a flourishing period at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. There are many historical, urban-planning, architectural-compositional, technological-functional, social and economic implications that highlight the interest placed in the past by municipal administrations in this specific industrial building, the fulcrum of the red meat supply chain, the construction of which was mandatory in all municipalities with more than 6,000 inhabitants. For decades, sanitary restrictions and management costs have decreed its closure and abandonment, and recently, actions have been undertaken to recover, reuse and functionally reconvert the architectural heritage of industrial archaeology. In this context, the contribution focuses on the design competition held for the construction of the new Municipal Slaughterhouse in Palermo in 1929, at a time of great cultural ferment in the European architectural scene. Specifically, the study documents the unpublished drawings of the project proposal that was never realised, presented by Engineer Antonio Zanca to the Commission in charge -today preserved in the Documentary Archives of the Scientific Collections of the Department of Architecture- proposing graphic analyses, conjectural virtual reconstructions and new methods of digital fruition and dissemination.

Abstract
Specifically, the study documents the unpublished drawings of the project proposal that was never realised, presented by Engineer Antonio Zanca to the Commission in charge -today preserved in the Documentary Archives of the Scientific Collections of the Department of Architecture- proposing graphic analyses, conjectural virtual reconstructions and new methods of digital fruition and dissemination.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
