The contribution to this volume consists of an analysis of interviews conducted with 10 women from migrant backgrounds who live, or have lived, in the city of Palermo. The interviews concern the issue of housing, with a specific focus on access to rented houses. The experiences shared by these women and, above all, their reflections on the dynamics of power that they face on a daily basis, reveal an intersection of subordinations and the complexity of being entangled in a legal and administrative jungle that increases their potential exposure to forms of exploitation. In the background of this situation we find the image of a city that is rapidly changing, like many other southern European cities that have undergone significant processes of touristification. Even while such processes do not represent the only key to understanding difficulty in accessing a fundamental right, but certainly make the general absence of public interventions more striking – as well as the often discriminatory nature of those interventions which do exist.

Abstract
Even while such processes do not represent the only key to understanding difficulty in accessing a fundamental right, but certainly make the general absence of public interventions more striking – as well as the often discriminatory nature of those interventions which do exist.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
