Aggiunte e revisioni su alcuni crocifissi di Leonardo, Giuseppe e Cristoforo Milanti da Trapani a Palermo

After an excursus on the critical misfortune of eighteenth-century wooden sculpture in Sicily, we investigate the artistic production of the Milanti workshop in Trapani, whose founder was Leonardo, father of Cristoforo (doc. 1660 ca-1718) and Giuseppe (doc.1661- 1697). The latter are the authors of wooden, stucco and marble statues, created not only in Trapani and the surrounding towns, but also in Palermo. The contribution, in addition to re-examining the production of the authors cited by distinguishing the stylistic traits used by the members of the atelier, traces the unpublished Christ Crucified in the church of Maria SS. to Leonardo Milanti. of Giubino from Calatafimi (Tp) and to Cristoforo's workshop, if not to the master, the Crucifix from the church of S. Francesco all'Immacolata in Agrigento.

Dopo un excursus sulla sfortuna critica della scultura lignea del Settecento in Sicilia, si indaga la produzione artistica della bottega trapanese dei Milanti, il cui capostipite fu Leonardo, padre di Cristoforo (doc. 1660 ca-1718) e di Giuseppe (doc.1661-1697). Questi ultimi sono autori di statue in legno, in stucco e in marmo, eseguite non solo a Trapani e nei centri viciniori, ma anche a Palermo. Il contributo, oltre a riesaminare la produzione degli autori citati distinguendo i tratti stilistici adoperati dai membri dell’atelier, riconduce a Leonardo Milanti l’inedito Cristo Crocifisso della chiesa di Maria SS. del Giubino di Calatafimi (Tp) e alla bottega di Cristoforo, se non al maestro, il Crocifisso della chiesa di S. Francesco all’Immacolata di Agrigento.
